Cosmetic Surgery Revision Policy

Our approach to revision procedures following cosmetic surgery.

Last updated 28 May 2026

Introduction

This policy sets out our approach to revision procedures following cosmetic surgery at Kinvara Private Hospital. It applies to all cosmetic surgery procedures we perform.

This policy does not apply to lipoedema surgery, which is a therapeutic procedure. Further surgery relating to lipoedema is managed as part of your clinical care under our Terms and Conditions, not under this policy.

In these terms, "surgeon" and "Consultant" both mean the independent Consultant who treats you. If there is any inconsistency between this policy and our Terms and Conditions on the subject of revision surgery, this policy takes precedence. On all other matters, our Terms and Conditions take precedence.

1. Understanding Cosmetic Surgery Outcomes

While our plastic surgeons strive for excellent results with every procedure, it is important to understand that cosmetic surgery outcomes depend on many factors, some of which are beyond the surgeon's control. The healing process varies significantly between individuals, and no surgeon can guarantee perfect results.

1.1 Realistic Expectations

When considering cosmetic surgery, it is essential to develop a clear understanding of what can and cannot be achieved. Our surgeons are committed to providing the highest standard of care, but certain limitations are inherent to all cosmetic procedures:

Perfect symmetry is not achievable. Human bodies are naturally asymmetrical. While surgery can improve balance and proportion, perfect symmetry is biologically impossible. This applies to all procedures, from facial surgery to breast enlargement.

All surgery results in scarring. Every surgical incision creates a scar. While we use careful techniques to minimise scarring, and scars typically fade over time, completely scarless surgery does not exist. The visibility of scars varies between individuals based on genetic factors, skin type, and adherence to post-operative care.

Specific measurements cannot be guaranteed. When performing breast surgery, we cannot guarantee a specific cup size. Similarly, with body contouring procedures, we cannot promise exact waist measurements or clothing sizes. The final outcome depends on your starting anatomy, skin elasticity, and how your body heals.

Results evolve over time. The immediate post-surgical appearance is not the final result. Swelling takes time to resolve, sometimes up to a year, and tissues continue to settle and adapt for months after surgery. Natural ageing, weight fluctuations, and lifestyle factors will continue to affect your results over time.

Individual healing varies significantly. Each person's body responds differently to surgery. Some patients heal quickly with minimal scarring, while others may develop thicker scars or experience prolonged swelling. These differences cannot be predicted with complete accuracy before surgery.

Minor imperfections are normal. Small irregularities, slight asymmetries, or minor contour variations are considered normal outcomes of surgery, not complications requiring revision.

Our surgeons will discuss these factors with you during your consultation to ensure you have realistic expectations about your potential results.

1.2 Factors Affecting Surgical Outcomes

Results may be affected by:

  • Individual healing ability (influenced by smoking, diet, medications, and genetics)
  • Natural scar formation tendencies (some people develop thicker scars)
  • Skin quality and elasticity
  • Weight fluctuations or pregnancy after surgery
  • Natural effects of ageing and gravity over time
  • Blood circulation and overall health
  • Adherence to post-operative care instructions
  • Previous surgical procedures on the same area

2. What Is a Revision Procedure?

For the purpose of this policy, a revision procedure is surgery performed to correct an undesirable or unexpected aesthetic result following cosmetic surgery at Kinvara Private Hospital. It is important to distinguish between:

  • Revision surgery: procedures to improve or correct the aesthetic outcome of previous surgery.
  • Additional surgery: new procedures to address different aspects of your appearance, or to enhance previous results.

This policy governs revision for aesthetic outcome only. Clinical complications arising from your surgery are managed as part of your clinical care under our Terms and Conditions and are not dealt with under this policy.

3. Requesting a Revision Procedure

To be considered for revision surgery:

  • You must submit your request in writing within six months of your initial procedure, or within a reasonable period of your result stabilising where your surgeon agrees that a longer period is appropriate.
  • Your request must clearly explain the specific concerns you have with your surgical outcome.
  • We will arrange a consultation with your original surgeon to evaluate your concerns.
  • If you fail to attend this consultation, revision surgery will not be offered.
  • If your surgeon determines that further healing time is required, you will need to attend a follow-up consultation before any revision surgery can be scheduled. Revision surgery will only be booked after your surgeon confirms you are ready for the procedure.
  • If your consultation (first or second) requires rescheduling, this will be at the Hospital's discretion.
  • Your surgeon must determine that the revision is clinically justified and appropriate.
  • Surgical revision of poor scarring (red, irregular, stretched and similar) will only be performed 12 months after the original surgery.

Important: Not all concerns will qualify for revision surgery under this policy. The final decision rests with your surgeon's professional assessment.

4. Revision Surgery Consultation

During your consultation, your surgeon will:

  • Evaluate whether your expectations are realistic
  • Assess whether adequate healing time has elapsed (typically 6 to 12 months minimum before revision)
  • Determine whether the outcome was due to surgical factors or normal body changes
  • Review your compliance with post-operative instructions
  • Discuss the risks, benefits, and limitations of revision surgery

Your surgeon may decline to perform revision surgery if:

  • The risks outweigh the potential benefits
  • The quality of scarring is within the acceptable range
  • Poor tissue quality limits the likelihood of improvement
  • Unrealistic expectations cannot be met

5. Fees for Revision Procedures

5.1 Procedures Under Local Anaesthetic

  • A fixed fee of £300 will apply.
  • Where the original procedure was performed by a Kinvara Consultant, that Consultant agrees to waive their surgeon's fee for a qualifying revision.
  • This applies to minor revisions such as:
    • Correction of small skin irregularities
    • Minor scar revisions
    • Small contour adjustments
    • Localised areas of liposuction correction

5.2 Procedures Under Sedation or General Anaesthesia

  • Hospital fees will apply (these vary by procedure).
  • Anaesthetist fees will apply.
  • Where the original procedure was performed by a Kinvara Consultant, that Consultant agrees to waive their surgeon's fee for a qualifying revision.

5.3 Non-Covered Expenses

  • Personal travel costs
  • Accommodation
  • Time off work
  • Other personal expenses

6. Timing and Scheduling

Should you decline the initial date offered for your revision surgery, we will propose one alternative date. We will make every reasonable effort to accommodate your schedule when arranging this alternative date.

If you decline the second date, no further date will be offered, save in exceptional circumstances at our discretion.

7. Rescheduling Policy

If you need to reschedule your revision surgery, you must inform us in writing at least 28 calendar days before your scheduled date. We will offer an alternative appointment, but please note that excessive delays in proceeding with your revision surgery cannot be accommodated and timeframes will remain at the Hospital's discretion.

If you reschedule your revision surgery within 28 calendar days of the agreed date for non-medical reasons, no alternative date will be offered, save in exceptional circumstances at our discretion.

If you need to reschedule your revision surgery for medical reasons, you must provide appropriate supporting documentation (such as a medical certificate or hospital letter). Upon receipt of valid medical evidence, we will offer you a new surgery date within a reasonable timeframe, as determined by the Hospital.

8. Procedures Not Considered Revisions

Certain procedures are classified as new or additional surgery rather than revisions. These are subject to our standard fee structure:

  • Additional fat grafting procedures
  • Reducing the size of an areola that has stretched after primary breast enlargement
  • Treatment of capsular contracture following breast implant surgery
  • Breast enlargement with implants following a breast lift procedure
  • Replacement of breast implants for a different size, shape, or profile
  • Further liposuction where the patient is dissatisfied with the cosmetic result or believes insufficient fat was removed during the initial procedure
  • Repeat tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) following pregnancy, weight gain, or development of loose skin
  • Removal of loose skin that has developed weeks or months after body contouring surgery
  • Conversion of a standard or Brazilian tummy tuck to a fleur de lis tummy tuck, particularly when the latter was initially recommended but declined
  • Any procedure to address changes that have occurred due to ageing, weight fluctuation, or pregnancy after your initial surgery

These are considered separate procedures as they address new conditions or requested changes that were not part of your original surgical plan.

9. Final Note

Kinvara Private Hospital reserves the right to assess each case individually and may make exceptions to this policy at our discretion. Cosmetic surgery is both an art and a science, and while we aim for the best possible results, we can only promise to provide the highest standard of care throughout your journey with us.
