Private Health Insurance
Kinvara Private Hospital works with leading insurers so you can make the most of your private health insurance policy. Find out how to use your cover and what to expect.
If you hold a private health insurance policy, it may cover some or all of the cost of your treatment at Kinvara Private Hospital. The extent of your cover depends on the terms of your individual plan, including any excesses, benefit limits, or exclusions that apply to your condition.
We work directly with a number of recognised insurers and aim to make the process as straightforward as possible. The steps below explain what to do before you book, so that your treatment is approved and your claim is handled without unnecessary delays.
How to use your insurance at Kinvara
Follow these steps to ensure your treatment is pre-authorised and your claim proceeds smoothly.
Review your policy
Before booking, check your policy documents to understand what treatments and specialists are covered. Pay attention to any excess amounts you are required to contribute, as well as any exclusions or waiting periods that may apply to your condition.
Obtain a GP referral
Most insurers require a referral from your GP before you can access specialist care. Speak to your GP about your symptoms or condition and ask for a referral letter. Some policies allow direct access to certain specialists, so check with your insurer to confirm what your plan requires.
Contact your insurer
Call your insurer's pre-authorisation team and provide details of your referral, the proposed treatment, and that you wish to attend Kinvara Private Hospital. They will confirm whether your treatment is covered and issue a pre-authorisation reference number, which is required before your procedure can be booked.
Book with us
Once you have your pre-authorisation reference number, contact our bookings team on 01709 464200. We will confirm that we can accept your insurer, arrange your initial consultation with the appropriate specialist, and guide you through the next steps.
Attend your consultation or treatment
On the day of your consultation or treatment, bring your pre-authorisation letter or reference number, your insurance membership card, and any documents from your GP. Our team will handle the claims process directly with your insurer wherever possible.
Insurer we work with
Kinvara Private Hospital is recognised by Bupa for the full range of procedures we offer. We aim to make the billing and claims process as smooth as possible by working directly with your insurer wherever this is available.

What your policy may cover
Private health insurance policies vary considerably. While the list below reflects treatment elements that are commonly covered, your individual plan will determine exactly what is included. Always confirm the details with your insurer before attending.
- Consultations and outpatient appointments
- Diagnostic tests, scans, and investigations
- Surgical procedures (daycase and inpatient)
- Anaesthetist fees
- Post-operative follow-up consultations
Some policies carry an excess, which is a fixed amount you contribute towards each claim. Others exclude pre-existing conditions or certain categories of treatment. Your insurer will clarify these details when you call to request pre-authorisation.
Understanding pre-authorisation
Pre-authorisation is your insurer's formal agreement to fund your treatment before it takes place. Without it, your insurer may decline to pay for the procedure, leaving you responsible for the cost.
When you contact your insurer, have the following information ready: your membership number, details of the proposed treatment or procedure, the name of your consultant (if known), and your GP referral (if one is required). Your insurer will then confirm whether the treatment is covered and provide a reference number.
Please bring your pre-authorisation letter or reference number with you on the day of your procedure. If your authorisation number changes or is updated after your initial booking, let our team know as soon as possible.
Have your authorisation ready before you book
We are unable to confirm a procedure booking until pre-authorisation from your insurer is in place. Contact us once you have your reference number and our team will arrange everything from there.
Paying without insurance
If you do not hold a private health insurance policy, or if your treatment is not covered by your plan, you can pay for your care directly through our self-pay option. We offer all-inclusive, fixed pricing with no hidden charges, and 0% interest finance is available through Humm Finance for those who prefer to spread the cost.
