Mr Janos Patko

He has undertaken a number of specialist fellowships and advanced training programmes. These include lower limb arthroplasty and trauma training in Bradford, spinal surgery at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, and further spinal training with the Spinal Foundation in Rochdale.

In April 2010 Mr Patko was appointed as a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. During his NHS career he developed a specialist practice in hip and knee arthroplasty, with particular expertise in complex primary and revision joint replacement surgery. He left his substantive NHS post in June 2026 and now concentrates on private practice, with a particular focus on lower limb arthroplasty and sports-related orthopaedic conditions.

His specialist interests include complex knee reconstruction and computer-assisted knee replacement surgery, particularly in patients with significant knee deformity. He has extensive experience in patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) and personalised knee replacement surgery, and has specialised training in robotic-assisted joint replacement using the MAKO system.

Mr Patko also has a particular interest in partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement, which replaces only the damaged compartment of the knee in suitably selected patients, and in cartilage repair and joint-preservation techniques for younger and physically active patients with focal cartilage damage. For patients with knee osteoarthritis who wish to delay or avoid surgery, he also offers the Arthrosamid® hydrogel injection.

He is committed to maintaining high standards of clinical governance and outcome monitoring. His joint replacement procedures are submitted to the National Joint Registry (NJR), and he actively seeks patient feedback through Doctify, giving patients access to independently published reviews of his clinical practice.
