What is Direct Brow Lift?
The Direct Brow Lift, or direct skin excision browpexy, is a definitive surgical procedure that addresses the descent of the forehead tissues. Technically, the procedure involves the excision of a crescent-shaped segment of skin and subcutaneous tissue directly above the eyebrow hairs. By targetting the area immediately adjacent to the brow, the surgeon has unparalleled control over the final height and shape of the brow arch. This is particularly effective for correcting brow ptosis and marked asymmetry.
During the surgery, care is taken to avoid the supraorbital nerve to preserve forehead sensation. The surgeon may also address the underlying frontalis muscle or the corrugator supercilii (frown muscles) to soften deep furrows.
The incision is meticulously closed along the upper border of the brow hair, often utilising a beveled or trichophytic incision technique to allow hairs to grow through the scar, making it virtually imperceptible in patients with thick brow hair. This direct approach provides a more stable and predictable lift compared to internal or 'blind' lifting techniques. At Kinvara you can also read about deep plane facelift, upper eyelid lift and mini facelift.
The benefits of this procedure include:
- Provides the most significant and predictable lift for severely drooping or 'heavy' eyebrows.
- Unparalleled ability to correct brow asymmetry, allowing for individual height adjustment of each side.
- Significantly improves functional vision by removing heavy tissue that hoods the upper eyelids.
- The preferred choice for patients with receding hairlines, as it avoids scalp or hairline incisions.
- Immediate rejuvenation of the upper face, creating a more alert, youthful, and approachable expression.

What does Direct Brow Lift involve?
The direct brow lift involves a precise mechanical repositioning of the eyebrow to restore an open and refreshed eye area.
Meticulous marking of the brow arch and height while the patient is upright to ensure perfect symmetry.
Administration of local anaesthesia followed by the excision of a crescent-shaped section of skin directly above the brow hair.
Internal suspension of the underlying tissues to provide a secure, long-lasting lift without skin tension.
Precision closure of the incision using fine sutures designed to blend into the natural brow line.

How Long is
the Recovery
AFTER DIRECT BROW LIFT?
Recovery from a direct brow lift is relatively straightforward. You can expect some bruising and swelling around the eyes, which may track down into the eyelids for the first 3 to 5 days. We recommend using cold compresses and sleeping with your head elevated on a few pillows to minimise this.
Sutures are typically removed between 7 and 10 days post-surgery at our Yorkshire clinic. Most patients feel socially comfortable and can return to work within 10 to 14 days, although the incision line will appear slightly red for several weeks. It is vital to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least three weeks.
As the scar matures over 6 to 12 months, it will flatten and fade significantly. Strict sun protection with SPF 50 is essential during this time to prevent the scar from darkening.
When Will I See
the Final Results?
The results of a direct brow lift are immediate and highly durable. Once the initial swelling subsides, you will see a much more 'open' and rested eye area, with the brows sitting in a stable, youthful position. Because a section of skin has been physically removed, the results are much more permanent than non-surgical options, typically lasting 10 years or more. While your face will continue to age naturally, your brows will always be in a better position than they would have been without the procedure. Patients often report that they no longer look 'tired' or 'cross' and find that their eyes look larger and brighter.
