Beautiful Results. Exceptional Care. Happy Patients, Every Time

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction, or suction-assisted lipectomy, is a surgical technique that physically extracts adipose (fat) cells from between the skin and the underlying muscle. At our Yorkshire clinic, we primarily utilize the Tumescent technique, which involves infiltrating the fat with a specialized saline solution containing local anaesthetic and adrenaline. This process 'tumesces' (swells and firms) the fat, making it easier to remove while drastically reducing bruising and bleeding.

Through tiny, strategic incisions, a specialized hollow tube called a cannula is used to meticulously sculpt the area. For more fibrous areas or high-definition results, we may employ VASER technology - ultrasound energy that 'liquefies' fat cells before aspiration.

The beauty of liposuction lies in its permanence: an adult body has a set number of fat cells, and once they are surgically removed, they do not grow back. The remaining skin then relies on its natural elasticity to retract over the new, slimmer foundation.

The benefits of this procedure include:

  • Permanently eliminates stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise.
  • Significantly enhances body proportions and creates a more defined silhouette.
  • Versatile treatment for multiple areas including abdomen, thighs, arms, and chin.
  • Uses minimally invasive incisions, leading to very discreet, well-hidden scars.
  • Provides a permanent change to the body's shape with long-lasting results.

What does Liposuction involve?

Liposuction utilizes precision technology to target and permanently remove fat cells, refining the body's natural curves.

Marking the target areas and 'transition zones' while the patient is standing to ensure aesthetic balance.

Infiltration of the fatty tissue with tumescent fluid to numb the area and minimize bleeding.

Permanent removal of fat cells using a specialized cannula moved in a controlled, cross-hatched pattern.

Meticulous sculpting of the area to ensure a smooth, natural-looking transition to untreated skin.

the Recovery

AFTER LIPOSUCTION?

Recovery from liposuction is a process of managing swelling. For the first 48-72 hours, you will feel sore, similar to the feeling of an intense workout. Bruising is expected and typically resolves within 2 weeks. You must wear your compression garment 24/7 (except for showering) for the first month.

Most patients return to light desk work within 5 to 7 days. While we encourage walking immediately to aid circulation, you should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks.

It is normal for the treated area to feel 'lumpy' or firm in the first few weeks; this is internal scarring and swelling that will soften and flatten over the coming months.

When Will I See
the Final Results?

The final results of liposuction are typically visible at the 6-month mark once all residual swelling has dissipated. You will see a significant improvement in your body's contour and a more streamlined silhouette. Because the fat cells are physically removed, the results are permanent. However, it is vital to maintain a stable weight; while you won't 'regrow' fat in the treated areas, significant weight gain can cause remaining fat cells in other areas to enlarge, potentially compromising your new proportions.
