What is Tummy Tuck Surgery?
A full Tummy Tuck is performed under General Anaesthetic. The surgeon makes a long, low horizontal incision that typically runs from hip to hip, placed strategically below the bikini line. A second, smaller incision is made around the navel. The skin and fat layer are carefully lifted to the ribcage.
The underlying, stretched abdominal muscles (the 'six-pack' muscles) are then stitched together with strong, internal sutures - a process known as Plication - to recreate a tight, firm abdominal wall. The skin flap is pulled taut downwards, and the excess skin and fat are excised.
A new opening is created for the belly button, which remains in its original anatomical position while the surrounding skin is tightened around it. Liposuction of the flanks is often incorporated to enhance the definition of the waistline and provide a seamless transition to the hips.
The benefits of this procedure include:
- Permanently removes the 'apron' of excess abdominal skin and fat.
- Repairs Diastasis Recti to restore core stability and a flat profile.
- Narrows the waistline for a more defined hourglass or athletic shape.
- Eliminates most stretch marks located below the navel.
- Improves posture and may alleviate back pain by strengthening the abdominal wall.

What does Tummy Tuck Surgery involve?
Abdominoplasty is a multi-stage surgery that addresses skin, fat, and muscle simultaneously to transform the midsection.
Under general anaesthesia, an incision is made from hip to hip and around the navel.
The abdominal muscles are tightened with permanent internal sutures to repair separation.
Excess skin and fat are pulled downward and surgically removed (excised).
The navel is repositioned through a new opening, and the incisions are closed in layers.

How Long is
the Recovery
AFTER TUMMY TUCK SURGERY?
For the first 10-14 days, you will need to walk with a slight hunch ('jack-knife' position) to protect the muscle repair. You will have surgical drains to prevent fluid build-up, which are usually removed within the first week. A compression garment must be worn 24/7 for 6 weeks to ensure the skin adheres correctly to the new, flat muscle wall.
When Will I See
the Final Results?
Initial results are visible immediately, but significant swelling is normal. As the swelling subsides over 3-6 months, your new contour will become more apparent. The results are permanent as long as you maintain a stable weight; the core strength and flat profile provided by the muscle repair can last a lifetime.
