Am I a Candidate for Surgery?

Early mallet toe can sometimes be managed with larger shoe boxes or toe 'crest' pads. Surgery is recommended if:
• You have persistent pain that limits your daily walking or exercise.
• You have recurring, painful corns that do not respond to podiatry treatment.
• The deformity is causing your other toes to become crowded or painful.
• You are unable to wear standard shoes comfortably.
• Non-surgical options (strapping and padding) have failed to provide relief.

Our All-Inclusive Promise

  • Fixed-price packages for mallet toe correction
  • All consultant surgeon and local anaesthetic fees included
  • Post-operative dressings and initial wound care provided
  • Follow-up appointment with your specialist surgeon
  • Flexible finance options available to help manage the cost

What is a Mallet Toe?

The primary cause of a mallet toe is an imbalance in the muscles and tendons that keep the toe straight. Over time, the flexor tendon underneath the toe becomes too tight.

There are two main stages of the deformity:
Flexible Mallet Toe: You can still straighten the toe by hand. This is often treated by simply releasing the tight tendon (tenotomy).
Fixed Mallet Toe: The joint has become stuck in the bent position. This requires a small piece of bone to be removed (arthroplasty) or the joint to be fused straight (arthrodesis) to prevent the deformity from returning. At Kinvara Hospital, we use minimally invasive techniques wherever possible to minimize scarring and speed up recovery.
