Your Day of Admission at Kinvara Private Hospital

What to expect from the moment you arrive - including your ward welcome, pre-procedure checks, and recovery.

Your admission day brings together everything prepared for you - your pre-assessment findings, your consultant's planning, and our team's readiness to care for you. From the moment you arrive, our staff guide you through each stage so you always know what comes next.

Arriving at the Hospital

On arrival, our reception team welcomes you and escorts you to your private room.

A nurse visits you promptly for an initial assessment - reviewing your medical history, checking medications, measuring vital signs, and confirming the fasting period completed. This flags anything needing attention before your procedure.

You have time to settle in, change into your hospital gown, and ask any questions.

Before Your Procedure

Your consultant visits you in your room beforehand to discuss what will happen, confirm the site and nature of the operation, and answer any remaining questions. They may mark the surgical site, which is standard practice to prevent errors. You sign your consent form if this is not already done.

If your procedure involves anaesthetic, your anaesthetist introduces themselves and talks through the plan.

Going to Theatre

A nurse accompanies you to the operating theatre - by bed or wheelchair depending on your mobility and procedure type. The theatre team carries out the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, confirming your identity, the procedure, the site, any allergies, and the anaesthetic plan.

These checks exist for your protection. Once completed, your procedure proceeds as planned.

After Your Procedure

You move to the recovery area where trained staff monitor your vital signs, manage pain relief, and watch for complications before transferring you back to your room. You may feel drowsy, disoriented, or cold - this is normal and settles as the anaesthetic wears off.

Back in your room, nursing staff continue regular observations. They help you take sips of fluid when safe and support you if you need the bathroom. Your consultant visits to let you know how the procedure went.

For day case procedures, discharge planning begins once you meet the required recovery milestones - passing urine, tolerating fluids, satisfactory pain control, and being mobile if relevant.

Our team is with you throughout your admission day. If anything feels wrong or you need reassurance, press your nurse call button or speak to any staff member nearby. Your safety and comfort on this day are our priority.
