What is a Bunionette?
The term 'Tailor's Bunion' originates from centuries ago when tailors would sit cross-legged all day, causing the outside of their feet to rub against the floor. Modern bunionettes are more often the result of genetics combined with tight-fitting footwear.
Structurally, the condition occurs at the fifth metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. This is where the long metatarsal bone meets the little toe. If the metatarsal head is naturally too wide or if the bone bows outward (Type III deformity), the resulting bump becomes a focal point for pressure, leading to the formation of a painful, inflamed bursa (fluid-filled sac) over the bone. At Kinvara you can also read about bunion surgery, hammer toe and ingrown toenail surgery.
