What is Inverted Nipple Correction?

Surgical correction of an inverted nipple focuses on releasing the internal 'tethers' that prevent the nipple from projecting. The procedure's complexity is dictated by the Sartorius Grading System. In Grade I cases, the nipple can be pulled out manually and stays out; here, a 'duct-sparing' approach is often possible. In Grade III cases, the nipple is permanently retracted and requires a complete release of the tethering bands and milk ducts to ensure it does not 're-invert' during healing.

To maintain the new position, the surgeon often uses a 'purse-string' suture technique at the base of the nipple, creating an internal scaffold that supports the tissue while it heals in its newly projected state. At Kinvara you can also read about areola reduction, breast enlargement and breast lift surgery.

The benefits of this procedure include:

  • Achieves a permanent, natural-looking outward nipple projection.
  • Eliminates hygiene issues caused by moisture trapped in retracted folds.
  • Restores symmetry to the breasts in unilateral (one-sided) cases.
  • Involves a short, 30-60 minute procedure under local anaesthesia.
  • Provides a significant boost to body confidence and self-esteem.

What does Inverted Nipple Correction involve?

The procedure focuses on surgically releasing the internal 'tension' that prevents the nipple from projecting.

Numbing of the nipple and areola with a precise local anaesthetic injection.

A micro-incision (2-3mm) is made at the base of the nipple (junction of the areola).

Release of the tight fibrous bands and, if necessary, the short milk ducts.

Placement of internal support sutures to 'lock' the nipple in its new projected position.

How Long is
the Recovery

AFTER INVERTED NIPPLE CORRECTION?

You will have a small dressing for the first week. Pain is usually very mild and manageable with paracetamol.

You must avoid sleeping on your stomach for 2 weeks to prevent pressure on the correction. The scars are tiny and usually fade to become virtually invisible within 6 months.

When Will I See
the Final Results?

The results are seen instantly. While there is a 5-10% risk of recurrence (especially in Grade III cases), the use of internal scaffolding sutures significantly improves long-term stability. Most patients are delighted with the newfound symmetry and the ability to wear clothing without self-consciousness.
