What is Tuberous Breast Surgery?
Tuberous Breast Deformity (TBD) results from a defect in the fascia at the base of the breast that restricts normal expansion, forcing glandular tissue to grow forward in a cone shape.
Surgery involves several crucial steps. The most critical is the incision of the constricting fibrous ring to allow tissue to flatten and expand. Volume correction is often necessary via breast implants, usually placed submuscularly to help stretch the constricted lower pole. Due to the inherent asymmetry of TBD, surgical plans are highly differential for each side. The final step usually involves a periareolar mastopexy to reduce the enlarged areola and hide the incision. At Kinvara you can also read about breast enlargement and breast lift surgery.
The benefits of this procedure include:
- Releases the constricted base to allow for a natural, round breast shape.
- Corrects significant asymmetry in volume, projection, and nipple height.
- Reduces the size of enlarged, puffy, or herniated areolas.
- Increases volume and projection while creating a harmonious contour.
- Significantly improves self-esteem and confidence in clothing and swimwear.

What does Tuberous Breast Surgery involve?
The procedure is a reconstructive approach aimed at releasing the constricted base, expanding the tissue footprint, and balancing the volume and nipple position.
A periareolar incision is made, and the tight, fibrous ring at the breast base is surgically released.
A submuscular pocket is created to house an implant, providing internal pressure to expand the lower pole.
The enlarged areola is reduced using a purse-string technique to correct herniation.
Incisions are closed with deep supportive sutures to maintain the new, expanded contour.

How Long is
the Recovery
AFTER TUBEROUS BREAST SURGERY?
Recovery involves more tightness than a standard augmentation due to the internal tissue release. You will need 2 weeks of initial downtime and must wear a surgical bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous arm movements during this time.
Most patients return to desk work after 10-14 days.
When Will I See
the Final Results?
The results are transformative, replacing a tubular shape with a round, balanced contour. While minor asymmetry is natural, the improvement in shape and volume is life-changing. Full results mature over 6-12 months as the tissue softens and the implants settle.
